I got a little sidetracked....

Hello friends!

I made something totally irrelevant to homeschooling.

Except if you're like me, it's EXTREMELY RELEVANT...

because last week I taught multiplying fractions, simplifying expressions, order of operations and long division. 4 different levels of math not to mention a smattering of other subjects and teen/ tween problem solving. ๐Ÿ˜‰

(In addition to making sure the toddler didn't cut the couch cushions again.)

That was just Tuesday.

And everyone still needed to eat that day. More than once. ๐Ÿซ

Which is where my not-so-side-project side project comes in.

I really, really needed something that would simultaneously bring down our ever-increasing grocery spending AND take care of the mental overload I was feeling when it comes to juggling full schedules & feeding all the people lately.

Because here's the thing. I actually do love feeding my people. And other people! (We fed 16 extra people every Wednesday night in February, and delivered 2 dinners to friends, and I still spend WAY less $$$ using this system.)

The ability to feed people (and fuel my own body) with healthy food is a privilege I don't want to resent. It just feels mentally hard some days to juggle with all the other things we've said yes to.

So I created a meal plan. For the year.

I love a simple home-life system that works for type A and B moms alike. ๐Ÿ˜…

Highlights are on that image above, but I can honestly say that:

  1. I'm enjoying cooking again - even on weeknights.
    โ€‹
  2. I am not really type A, but I'm LOVING having a plan that is totally planned out and also totally flexible.
    โ€‹
  3. I saved HUNDREDS of dollars using this last month. (I'd gotten pretty lax on grocery spending and was tired of spending so much.)

Here's a look at the digital features:

And here's the grocery-list-in-two-minutes Chat GPT tool.

If I update it (and i'm sure I will), you'll have lifetime access.

What questions do you have!? (I'll read & reply to each one.)

xoxo,

Renee

January 2026 Timeless Principles of Teaching & Learning It took me a long time to unlearn my own assumptions about school & how kids learn. Do you know what I mean? I thought learning & school were the same; therefore, more school = more learning. I thought my kids needed me to show them how everything works. I thought there must be a right/ best/ better/ superior way of educating at home & searched for years to find it. Today's newsletter is born out of my 20 year journey of thinking about...

The fourth winter & your child's progress. It's winter #4 over here in the midwest. And it got me thinking... our winter 1 - spring 1 - winter 2- spring 2 - winter 3 - spring 3 - summer 1 - winter 4- spring 4 cycle is a good metaphor for how kids learn. As the midwest weather does not go from winter to spring to summer, so humans do not learn in a directly linear fashion. Learning isn't like the left graph... it's much more like the right. Remember, "school" isn't a checklist of tasks to be...
